Being a part of the community means so much more than just offering our services to the businesses and residents of Ottawa. It is extremely important to us to give back to our community and over the last several years we are really proud to have participated in a number of different community events and running our own fundraising events for local charities.
In today’s society, the amount of electronic waste (known as e-waste) is rapidly growing & there is an increasing concern about the proper disposal of such items. They cannot be properly broken down in landfills and the City of Ottawa no longer accepts these items for trash pickup.
Capital Junk has been holding ‘Free E-Waste Drop Off’ events through-out the year to show our support to the environment! All items dropped off were transported to local e-waste facilities for reuse, refurbishment, or recycling. Some of the previously-loved items we collected at the FREE drop off included: computer monitors & towers, keyboards, printers, copiers, fax machines, televisions, scanners, IT equipment and stereo’s.
There was a great turnout for this event in particular as all proceeds were going to The Terry Fox Foundation. We were able to fill five full trucks with people still dropping things off as we were leaving! We are always very impressed to see so many local Ottawa residents and businesses participate & demonstrate their commitment to making our nation’s Capital a greener place to live!

Once again, we look forward to your continued support Ottawa!

Along with the Free E-Waste Drop-off Day’s Capital Junk runs, we also organize a yearly charity E-Waste Pickup day. For a few days out of the year Capital Junk makes it way around Ottawa collecting old TV’s, computers, printers, cell phones and stereos. Instead of charging the normal Junk removal fee, we asked for $20.00 donations to the Ottawa Food Bank. All the proceeds collected during this event are matched by Capital Junk and presented to the Ottawa Food Bank.

The Ottawa Food Bank is a charitable organization that is currently supporting 140 emergency food programs that feed approximately 45,000 people per month, 37% of which are children! For more information on the Ottawa Food Bank you can check out their website at ottawafoodbank.ca
On Sunday, November 30th, 2014 we removed and recycled a pile of plastic bags for Whole Foods Canada‘s Bag Swap Event. Residents were asked to bring in clean plastic shopping bags in exchange for one Whole Foods Reusable Tote Bag!
On Earth Day April 22nd, 2013 we descended on Ottawa City Hall and collected a $1.00 donation from anyone willing to donate. We were so excited to have our very own Mayor Jim Watson, Councillors Steve Desroches, Katherine Hobbs as well as our good friends from the RVCF Charles Billington and Jason Kelly. The trees will be planted throughout the summer just off Moodie Drive in the city’s west end.
The Capital Junk team has been participating in Cleaning the Capital along with other community events since 2009 in an ongoing effort to maintain the cleanliness of our beautiful city and demonstrate the pride we take in serving our Nation’s capital. Capital Junk participated in the spring Cleaning the Capital campaign, and once again it was a huge success and a whole lot of fun. Our trucks head out to Sarsaparilla Trail to help clean up garbage and other various debris, check out pictures the team took of their cleanup.
Capital Junk was proud this past summer to support and sponsor 2 baseball teams. One from the Richmond/Munster Little League and another from the Barrhaven Mixed Slow Pitch League . Both teams did great finishing at the top of their divisions!
Founded in 2001, Ottawa River Keeper is a grassroots charity formed to protect, promote, and improve the health & future of the Ottawa River. The Ottawa River provides drinking water to over 1,000,000 residents as part of the world’s largest freshwater ecosystem, is a world class recreation destination and flows right through the heart of our Nation’s Capital!
In support of this great program, Capital Junk has made contributions and adopted part of the Ottawa River. We are committed to helping make Ottawa a ‘green’ city!
Capital Junk is proud to be a part of the Adopt a Road program here in Ottawa. In 2010 we decided it would be a great opportunity for us to give back to the community. We adopted a section of Carling Avenue between Pinecrest Avenue and Holly Acres Road. The Capital Junk fleet travels this section of road and makes sure that it is clean and free of debris.
